Insurance 101:

Let's face it, insurance can often be confusing, lack clarity, and overwhelming.  At Shift Together Wellness, we want to make it as easy and seamless as possible for our clients to start therapy.  Which is why we will work with you and your insurance company to verify your benefits, determine what is covered, and help offer guidance in what you can anticipate paying per session.

Helpful Terminology

We want to work with you to make sure your only focus in therapy is you.  We have include some terminology that is commonly used with Health Insurance companies to help provide clarity as your start your journey with Shift Together Wellness.

  •  An in-network provider is a therapist or doctor who has a contract with your insurance company. This means they have agreed to accept a certain rate for services, and you'll typically pay a lower out-of-pocket cost, usually just your copay or coinsurance.

  •  An out-of-network provider is a therapist who doesn't have a contract with your insurance company. You are responsible for paying their full fee upfront, and then you can submit a claim to your insurance company for partial reimbursement.

  •  A copay (or copayment) is a fixed amount you pay for a healthcare service after you've met your deductible. For example, if your copay for a therapy session is $25, you would pay that amount at the time of your appointment.

  •  Your deductible is the amount you must pay out of pocket before your insurance company begins to pay for your healthcare services. For example, if your deductible is $1,000, you'll pay the full cost of your sessions until you've spent that amount.

  •  Coinsurance is the percentage of the cost you are responsible for after you've met your deductible. For example, if your plan has a 20% coinsurance, your insurance would pay 80% of the cost of the session, and you would be responsible for the remaining 20%.

  •  A superbill is an itemized receipt provided by your therapist that includes all the information your insurance company needs to process a claim for out-of-network reimbursement. It typically includes the provider's information, a diagnosis code, and the dates and costs of services.
